At Outboard Covers Australia (OCA) we have made a cover to suit the cowling part of the motor which can stay on the motor when it's running or simply being towed. We call this cover a Splash® Cover. This type of cover is designed to protect the motor from damage from things such as:

*Noise reduction was based on a DB metre & sound engineer on a boat on the water using a Mercury 115hp 2 stk motor. Other tests have resulted in better than 10% reduction, but each motor will vary (eg: Yam 140hp 2 stk = 16% reduction tested).
Splash® Covers benefits and FAQ:
Splash® Covers do not inhibit the motors performance in anyway shape or form, because we are doing no more than the manufacturers do when they place a cowling over the motor.
Splash® covers has been designed to avoid contact or covering things such as the tell tail and exhaust ports and are held on using marine grade 'shock cord'.
Being designed to suit a particular motor shape and size ensures
that the cover fits perfectly. The best way to describe the fit
is "it is like a second skin"
Another question we are asked is
does the motor get hotter? The answer is simple, 99% of outboards
are water cooled not air cooled, in fact we have unofficial reports
from commercial operators that some motors run better because they
have chosen a light coloured cover which does not attract as much
heat from the sun (an example might be Mercury run a black cowl
which will attract more heat than a the Mariners silver cowl right?).
